About Vulcain Engineering

Vulcain Engineering, an international engineering consultancy, supports global industrial leaders in their transition to a more responsible and sustainable future. We support our customers in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of their complex infrastructure projects that will shape the world of tomorrow. With operations in 17 countries and employing over 6,000 staff worldwide, our business responds to the needs of our clients by delivering high-value engineering expertise tailored to our clients’ most complex challenges.

In the UK, we have a key focus in the Nuclear sector, contributing to ground breaking projects, such as Hinkley Point C (HPC).

The Position: Electrical Systems Engineer (Nuclear)

Vulcain Engineering is seeking an Electrical Commissioning Engineer to join our Nuclear New Build technical team in Bristol.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to further develop their career within a highly regulated, safety-critical environment. Working across electrical, control and instrumentation systems, you will play a key role in assessing system readiness, managing technical open points and supporting equipment through commissioning and final delivery.

You'll work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, reviewing technical information, evaluating system health and helping to ensure electrical and EC&I systems are ready for successful commissioning.

Some of the main responsibilities of the Electrical Systems Engineer will include:

  • Assess the readiness of electrical and EC&I systems for commissioning activities.
  • Review technical documentation, engineering data and system records from multiple databases and sources.
  • Identify, track and manage design open points, technical queries and system modifications.
  • Support the commissioning process by driving resolution of engineering issues and technical risks.
  • Monitor system health and provide technical recommendations to support project delivery.
  • Take ownership of assigned systems and equipment through commissioning and handover.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, EC&I and commissioning teams to achieve project milestones.
  • Ensure all activities are delivered in line with nuclear industry safety, quality and regulatory requirements.

Profile wanted

Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, EC&I, Instrumentation & Control, Control Systems Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience working within a regulated engineering environment with strong safety standards.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation systems, control systems or plant equipment.
  • Ability to review technical information, engineering documentation and system data to support engineering decisions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage technical issues through to resolution.
  • Comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams and engaging with multiple stakeholders.
  • Organised and proactive approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Motivated to develop within the nuclear, energy, defence or other safety-critical engineering sectors.
  • Reside locally to Bristol or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.

Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).

Remuneration & Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary tailored to your experience and background. Whether you're earlier in your career or bring more senior-level expertise, we encourage you to apply if this role aligns with your skills, or if you're open to discussing other opportunities within this discipline.
