Job description

Vulcain Engineering UK are seeking an experienced CDM Advisor to support a major nuclear decommissioning programme, ensuring that health and safety requirements are fully embedded throughout design and early‑stage project planning. 

This role provides specialist CDM 2015 expertise to ensure health and safety is fully integrated into design, planning, and preparation stages of decommissioning projects, supporting the Principal Designer across all phases. 



Some of the main responsibilities of the CDM Advisor will include: 

  • Review and critique engineering strategy against CDM 2015 requirements. 
  • Provide guidance on project phasing, priorities, and design‑stage safety considerations. 
  • Support resolution of engineering and design challenges with proportionate CDM‑aligned solutions. 
  • Assist in producing evidence and documentation to support Principal Designer duties. 
  • Coordinate CDM design‑stage health and safety inputs across multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate design and project hazards. 
  • Prepare or support Pre‑Construction Information and Health & Safety File documentation. 
  • Facilitate risk assessments, design reviews, and multidisciplinary workshops. 

Profile wanted

Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following: 

  • Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015 and design‑stage risk management. 
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent health and safety qualification. 
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IOSH, APS). 
  • Experience as a CDM Advisor, Coordinator, or similar role. 
  • Experience on large, complex construction or decommissioning projects (nuclear decommissioning desirable). 
  • Understanding of design risk management and construction/decommissioning project workflows. 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills. 
  • Ability to prepare PCI documentation and interpret technical drawings. 
  • Ideally we are seeking permanent staff, but may be able to consider other employment types.
