The Position: Financial Controller

We are looking for a Financial Controller (FC) to take ownership of the finance function of Vulcain Engineering. This is a key role in a business of 230 employees and £25m turnover, where you will be the focal point for all financial aspects of the company and an active member of the Senior Leadership Team. 

Reporting to the UK Managing Director and working closely with the UK Group CFO, you will also collaborate with finance leaders across the wider Group as we continue to grow and move towards a UK Shared Service Centre model. Based at our Stonehouse head office (with occasional travel to other offices), this permanent, full-time role offers the chance to shape our financial planning, strengthen processes, and support the business through its next phase of growth.

Some of the main responsibilities of the Financial Controller will include:

• Provide financial analysis and technical accounting expertise to the VENG management team and wider UK Group, translating data into actionable insights, advising on accounting and tax matters, and leading system development to support change and improvements.
• Oversee all company reporting and ensure compliance with UK law as well as Group policies.
• Drive financial planning (annual budgeting and forecasting), business and cost control, and process improvement.
• Guide and develop the finance team, ensuring appropriate staffing levels, including mutualisation of back-office functions with sister companies.
• Participate in Board meetings, providing financial insight and supporting strategic decision-making.
• Optimise cash flow and working capital requirements to strengthen the company’s financial position.
• Lead audit preparation and quarterly consolidation reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Group requirements.

Preferred Profile:

Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:

• Professional Qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with relevant post-qualification experience.
• Proven UK experience will be required for this role.
• Strong costing and payroll experience, alongside the ability to run reporting and analysis for costs and margins.
• Experience with various accounting and payroll tools and packages.
• Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
• Ability to communicate financial data and support non-financial managers to achieve their financial objectives.
• Proven capability of establishing improvements and rolling out new ways of working.
• Strong leadership and organisational skills.
• Reside locally to Eastington, Gloucestershire or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.
