With operations in 17 countries and over 6,000 employees worldwide, we deliver high-value engineering expertise tailored to some of the industry's most complex challenges across the energy, infrastructure and industrial sectors.

In the UK, we are supporting major projects that contribute to the country's energy transition, helping to deliver secure, reliable and sustainable power generation for future generations.

The Position: Electrical Commissioning Engineer – Hydro Power

Vulcain Engineering is seeking an experienced Electrical Commissioning Engineer to support a significant refurbishment and modernisation programme at a major hydroelectric power station in North Wales.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the upgrade of critical energy infrastructure, working at the heart of a multidisciplinary site team responsible for verifying existing installations, coordinating commissioning activities, and ensuring the successful integration of upgraded electrical and control systems.

The role offers the chance to work on a landmark renewable energy asset while contributing directly to the UK's low-carbon energy future.

Some of the main responsibilities of the Electrical Commissioning Engineer will include:

  • Survey and assess existing electrical installations to validate the condition and suitability of equipment for upgrade and refurbishment activities.
  • Coordinate and supervise commissioning activities across electrical, control and instrumentation systems.
  • Verify wiring arrangements, terminal connections, signal paths and field interfaces against engineering documentation.
  • Conduct signal checking, input/output verification and field cable tracing activities to support system testing and commissioning.
  • Identify discrepancies between site installations and engineering documentation, supporting resolution and corrective actions.
  • Review electrical protection, control and interlocking arrangements to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Produce red-line mark-ups and support the updating of as-built documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with commissioning, control systems and engineering teams to ensure seamless delivery of retrofit and upgrade works.

This position offers significant involvement in a complex brownfield engineering environment where practical problem-solving and technical expertise are highly valued. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a visible impact on a major hydroelectric facility while working autonomously on site and engaging with a broad range of technical stakeholders.

Profil recherché

Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:

  • Practical experience within hydroelectric ( hydro ) generation would be highly advantageous; however, candidates from power generation, pumped storage, substations, industrial automation, renewable energy, or other heavy industrial environments will also be considered.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering electrical commissioning activities on brownfield retrofit, refurbishment, or upgrade projects.
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and validate electrical documentation, including wiring diagrams, interconnection drawings, signal lists, terminal schedules, and cable schedules.
  • Experience working with control systems, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, protection systems, local control panels, and generator or turbine auxiliary systems.
  • Proven capability in field cable tracing, signal verification, input/output (I/O) testing, and commissioning support activities.
  • Experience identifying and resolving discrepancies between engineering documentation and installed equipment within live operational environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, technical reporting, and stakeholder coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside engineering, commissioning, and site teams.
  • Reside locally to North Wales or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.

Join Vulcain Engineering and contribute to the delivery of critical renewable energy infrastructure while building your career on one of the UK's most significant hydroelectric refurbishment programmes.
