Vulcain Engineering, an international engineering consultancy, supports global industrial leaders in their transition to a more responsible and sustainable future. We support our customers in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of their complex infrastructure projects that will shape the world of tomorrow. With operations in 17 countries and employing over 6,000 staff worldwide, our business responds to the needs of our clients by delivering high-value engineering expertise tailored to our clients’ most complex challenges.
In the UK, we have a key focus in the Nuclear sector, contributing to ground breaking projects, such as Hinkley Point C (HPC).
The Position: Systems Modelling & Simulation Engineer
We’re looking for an engineer with a passion for simulation and systems thinking to join our growing team. This role sits at the intersection of numerical simulation, acausal modelling, and MBSE, and offers the chance to apply advanced engineering methods to real-world challenges on a nationally significant programme.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Systems Modelling & Simulation Engineer
will include:
· Developing and extending simulation libraries to support complex, multi-physics analysis.
· Connecting MBSE models with ANSYS (via ModelCenter or similar tools) to create integrated system-level simulations.
· Carrying out thermal, structural, and neutronic analysis using established numerical methods.
· Helping to couple simulations across domains and exploring ways to speed them up with reduced-order modelling.
· Writing small code routines to automate repetitive tasks and streamline workflows.
· Preparing clear reports and documentation to support decision making.
· Working closely with colleagues from different engineering backgrounds to share knowledge and deliver consistent, high-quality results.
In this role, you will have the chance to support one of the most rare and exciting nuclear engineering programmes in the UK. This is more than a single role – it’s a chance to be part of a team shaping how multiphysics, modelling and systems engineering come together on a nationally significant project.
Preferred Profile:
Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:
· A degree in engineering (or equivalent experience).
· Strong background in numerical simulation, ideally with ANSYS.
· Experience using acausal modelling languages such as Modelica, Simscape, Dymola or Amesim.
· Familiarity with MBSE approaches and tools (SysML, Capella, Cameo, or similar).
· Detailed knowledge of core engineering principles across multiple domains.
· Someone who can explain their work clearly, write up findings well, and collaborate easily with others.
· Experience creating or applying reduced-order models would be an advantage.
· An interest in multi-domain co-simulation or digital twins.
Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).
